TKS RaceLab cover: Rotax Global App, how to use it on a race weekend
In short The Rotax Global App is the free app for iPhone and Android used at Rotax races that run on the EVA event management system. It gives you live timing, results, timetables, weather, entry lists and regulations, but above all it carries the official communications: messages to everyone (Updates), personal messages to the driver (Notifications), the board with the official documents (Notice Board) and the briefing. The driver must log in with their 13-character EDIT code, received with the entry confirmation email: only then do the briefing and notifications count as seen. If the organiser uses the app as the official channel, installing it is mandatory.

What the Rotax Global App is

The Rotax Global App is the official app for Rotax races that use the EVA event management system. It is free and you download it from the App Store for iPhone and Google Play for Android by searching for "Rotax Global".

It works for every championship connected to EVA: choose your championship and you find everything you need on a race weekend, from the practice timetable to the stewards' documents.

What you see depends on the organiser: they upload timetables, documents and communications. That is why before the race you should always ask whether the app is used as the official channel.

What you find in the Rotax Global App

The main screen has two pages, which you switch by swiping left and right: the first is for the current event, the second for the whole championship.

  • Live timing and live streaming: lap times and positions of every driver, and the race video when the organiser streams it.

  • Results, timetables and dates: for every event of the championship.

  • Weather: current conditions and a 6-day forecast.

  • Track and entry list: circuit information, contacts, directions, and the list of entrants in every class.

  • Regulations: sporting and technical regulations and bulletins.

  • Official communications: Updates, Notifications, Notice Board and Briefing.

The four features you must not get wrong

These are the features that really matter, because they replace the race office and the drivers' briefing.

Updates and Notifications

They are push messages that reach your phone even when the app is closed.

  • Update: a message for all entrants or for one class. Everyone who is logged in receives it. You can choose to receive those for all classes or only for yours.

  • Notification: a personal message for one driver, for example a summons from the stewards or a decision in PDF. The driver and anyone following them receive it. When the driver reads it, the stewards see the time it was read.

A notification only counts as read if the person who opens it is logged in with the driver's EDIT code, or follows the driver using their EDIT code.

Notice Board

It is the official notice board in digital form: results, grids, bulletins, stewards' decisions and penalties, from newest to oldest. You can open and download every document and filter the list. The screen does not refresh by itself: tap the refresh button from time to time to see the latest documents.

Briefing

It replaces the drivers' briefing with the race director. It is a list of documents and videos to watch before racing, in order:

  • Green: already watched, you can watch it again.

  • Flashing orange: to watch now.

  • Red: to watch next, in order.

The driver must watch every session in order, logged in with their EDIT code. If you log in with an email address or without logging in, you see everything in green and can watch freely, but nothing is recorded: for the system the briefing was not attended and the penalty comes later.

The EDIT code: what it is and where to find it

The EDIT code is a 13-character string that every driver receives, together with a QR code, in the confirmation email after the online entry on EVA. It is your identity in the app.

You need it to log in as a driver, to make briefings and notifications count as seen and to let a parent or the team confirm messages on your behalf. Anyone using a driver's EDIT code has the same responsibility as the driver: only give it to people who really look after the driver at the race.

How to set it up in five steps

Do it at home, before you leave for the track: on the grid there is no time.

  • Download the app: search for "Rotax Global" in the App Store or Google Play. In your phone settings allow push notifications, camera access, which is needed to read the QR code, and background refresh.

  • Check the connection: at the track make sure your mobile network works. If the signal is weak, connect to the Wi-Fi of the track or the organiser.

  • Choose the championship: the first time you open the app tap SELECT, choose the championship from the list and confirm with ADD CHAMPIONSHIP.

  • Log in: from the menu in the top left tap REGISTER/LOGIN. The driver logs in with the EDIT code, typed in or read from the QR code: there is no need to register, because the EVA entry already counts. Non-drivers, such as parents, mechanics and team managers, register with an email address and password.

  • Add the drivers to follow: from the menu tap ADD DRIVER.

Following a driver: parents, mechanics and teams

There are two ways to follow a driver:

  • Listen Only: enter the race number and category and you receive all the messages for that driver.

  • Listen and Confirm: enter the driver's EDIT code and you can also confirm messages on their behalf. It is the right way for parents of younger drivers, with the same responsibility as the driver.

You can save up to 4 championships as favourites and switch between them without losing your settings. After the event the system logs you out automatically, at the latest before the next event: at the next race you have to log in again.

Our advice

Before the race weekend do a full test at home: log in with the EDIT code, choose the championship, turn notifications on. At the track check the app after every session and before every heat: a stewards' summons read too late is a problem you avoid with a glance at your phone.

For younger drivers, the parent adds the driver in Listen and Confirm mode: that way the messages also reach whoever is in the pit lane.

And for the engine, before the race go through Rotax technical scrutineering: if you are missing an original spare part, the shop has the full Rotax catalogue.

Frequently asked questions about the Rotax Global App

Is the Rotax Global App free?

Yes. It is free and you download it from the App Store for iPhone and Google Play for Android by searching for "Rotax Global".

Is the Rotax Global App mandatory?

It is when the organiser uses it as the official channel for communications, notice board and briefing. Always ask before the race.

Where do I find the EDIT code?

In the confirmation email you receive after the online entry on EVA: it is a 13-character string, with a QR code.

What happens if I watch the briefing without the EDIT code?

You see it, but nothing is recorded: for the system you did not attend it and you can be penalised. The driver must log in with their EDIT code.

What is the difference between an Update and a Notification?

An Update is a message for everyone or for one class. A Notification is a personal message for one driver, for example a stewards' summons, and the system records when it is read.

Can a parent follow the driver in the app?

Yes. With the race number and category they receive the messages, and with the driver's EDIT code they can also confirm them on the driver's behalf, with the same responsibility.
