International Tracks: What Makes Them Special

You have heard of Lonato, Franciacorta, Cremona and Ala. Perhaps you have already driven there in an Arrive & Drive session, perhaps you have only seen them in a video. What is not always clear is why these international tracks have become a benchmark for karting: not only in Italy, but internationally.
At TKS RaceLab we run Arrive & Drive sessions at all four. What we tell you here comes from direct experience on track, not from books.
In short Lonato (1,200 m), Franciacorta (1,300 m), Cremona (1,210 m) and Ala (1,110 m) are ACI Sport homologated tracks, each with a different character: Lonato all-round, Franciacorta technical, Cremona fast, Ala with its elevation changes. Driving them all makes a driver more complete.
What makes international tracks special
Not every track is homologated for the Rotax Max Challenge. To host official races a track must meet precise technical criteria: width, minimum length, trackside safety, equipped pits and a homologated timing system.
You feel the level of the track straight away. The available grip, the geometry of the corners, the braking points: everything is designed to make the kart and the driver work at their best. If you really want to know what you are worth on track, you need a track that tests you in the right way.
Track | Length and ACI grade |
|---|---|
South Garda Karting, Lonato (BS) | 1,200 m, Grade A |
Franciacorta Karting Track, Castrezzato (BS) | 1,300 m, Grade A |
Cremona Kart Circuit, Cremona | 1,210 m, Grade A |
Ala Karting Circuit, Ala (TN) | 1,110 m, Grade B |

South Garda Karting: Lonato
It is one of the benchmark tracks of European karting: the Lonato circuit hosts top international races such as the WSK Super Master Series. 1,200 metres of track, fast and slow corners in alternation, and a technical chicane that rewards those who can manage the kart under traction.
On track with us at Lonato you learn what it means to drive on a real circuit: professional pits, race-level asphalt grip and lap times you can compare with drivers from all over Europe. This is where you find out whether you are really improving.
Franciacorta Karting Track
A technical 1,300-metre track in the heart of Franciacorta. The layout is twistier than Lonato and strongly rewards work on setup and smooth driving. It is a track that does not forgive line errors: every centimetre off the optimal groove costs you time.
For those who want to work on driving precision, Franciacorta is often more useful than Lonato. The feedback the track gives you when you exit the corner correctly is immediate, and this speeds up learning.
Cremona Kart Circuit
A wide, fast 1,210-metre track that highlights engine power and throttle management on corner exit. At Cremona you immediately feel the difference between those who drive smoothly and those who use the throttle in jerks. The long straight is also the place to work on your braking point. In 2026 Cremona hosted the first round of the Rotax MAX Challenge Euro Trophy.
For drivers who want to push on pure pace, Cremona is often the favourite. Less technical than Franciacorta, but just as useful for understanding where you lose tenths in the fast sweepers.
Ala Karting Circuit
The Ala circuit, in Trentino, was completely renovated between November 2024 and June 2025: 1,110 metres of track with technical corners and marked elevation changes, which make it different from all the other tracks we work at. It is ACI Sport homologated and is an ACI Federal Technical Centre.
For those who want to grow as drivers, Ala is a complete school: the ups and downs force you to read the track corner by corner and to dose brake and throttle precisely. And it is easy to reach: 5 minutes from the Brenner motorway, 15 from Lake Garda.
Frequently asked questions
Which track is best for getting started? It depends on the goal. Lonato is an all-round benchmark, while Franciacorta is particularly useful for working on driving precision and Cremona puts more emphasis on speed, fast sweepers and throttle management. Ala, with its elevation changes, trains you to read the track corner by corner.
Why does driving on different tracks help you improve? Changing track forces the driver to adapt reference points, racing lines and rhythm. It is an effective way to understand which aspects of your driving are solid and which still need work.
Do you need to change the kart setup when moving from one track to another? There is no setting that works for every circuit. The setup must be assessed according to the layout, the track conditions and the kart’s behaviour, making changes only after precisely identifying the problem to be corrected.
